This month’s guest blogger is Teacher Jennifer Hillman. Jen began her career as a Teacher Aide and has worked in various roles including Teacher Aide II, Camp Counselor, and Assistant Teacher. She has provided classroom instruction to hundreds of Mary Cariola students. In May 2022, Jen received the Paul C. Scott Mary Cariola Center Employee of the Year Award.
September 7, 2022, will be the start of my 24th school year at Mary Cariola Center. Preparing to go back to school is always a busy time. We are preparing new classrooms to greet our students for their first day of school. My goal each year is to create a welcoming space to make each student feel happy to be coming to school.
Each year my feelings range between excitement and anxiousness as I wait to meet my students. My favorite part of the beginning of the school year is to see the excitement of the students. Most are smiling while walking or rolling down the halls to their new classrooms. If a student happens to be hesitant about being back to school, staff at Mary Cariola help them through the transition.
If you are new to sending your child to school here, I believe you will find our school a warm, welcoming environment where you will feel at ease about sending your child to school each day.
