Meet Bridget Borsa, Director of Information Technology at Mary Cariola Center. Bridget resides in Pittsford and has worked at Mary Cariola for 21 years.

A little about me. I grew up in Geneva, attended Finger Lakes Community College, SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Brockport. I have had two very different careers. My first career focus was in Psychology and Behavior Management.

A Mary Cariola career appealed to me because I wanted to work in an environment where children and young adults were the primary focus. Mary Cariola had a fantastic reputation in the community even back then! I had experience at a nonprofit that assisted adults at my previous job so this was a perfect match. It was also my first job after switching careers from Psychology and Behavior Management to Information Technology.

We are a small part of a fantastic team. Our lives all changed quite dramatically this past year. I think I can speak for my IT colleagues and say being able to assist our employees, residents, students and families get through these new and challenging technological times has given us a sense of what it truly means to be a small part of a fantastic team and has been our greatest shared achievement. When we had challenging days making that happen, we always felt supported by the patience and kindness of our co-workers. It made it much easier to get through a tough task or two!

I am always amazed at the generosity, team spirit, and professionalism that our staff display. If I had children of my own, I would feel so lucky that my child either lives in one of our residences or attends school here because I know that people have their best interest in mind as they do their jobs each day. The IT team is lucky to be able to support the entire agency so we have first-hand knowledge about how special our employees are.

The most important lesson my family instilled in me is to respect other people, be honest, and do the best job I can.

On weekends, I used to play Squash every Sunday morning and I really miss that. Now lots of walks and hikes with Lexi our dog and way too much television and streaming.

Someone might be surprised to know that I am not a big proponent of some types of social media. I understand the importance of its place in the marketing and business world, but I think some of the platforms have created complexities in life that are not always positive.

Parting words from an IT person. I cannot miss an opportunity to say do not click on links in email or texts unless you are positive that it is safe; keep passwords confidential; update your devices; and ask for help if you need it!
