In the midst of a global pandemic, with obstacles seemingly at every turn, I am proud to say that Mary Cariola Center has met every challenge we have faced. It is said that “crisis doesn’t build character, it shows it” and the staff of our Agency have shown their character with pride, dedication and commitment to those we serve.
It is the time of year when we traditionally give thanks and celebrate with family and friends. While this season may be different from any previous year in our lives, at Mary Cariola Center we have much to celebrate. Since March, our residential staff has worked diligently to keep our residents safe, healthy and meeting their milestones regardless of the pandemic. Their creativity and perseverance has been inspiring. They have truly exemplified that Mary Cariola residents are “family.”
At school, it has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs yet; our school staff has taken everything in stride and continues to do so. While remote or even hybrid learning is not ideal, the school staff has done an excellent job on engaging students, keeping them on track with their individual education plans and therapies.
As we begin a new Cariola Cares Campaign called “Sharing Joy” we can look deep within and surely find a place of joy in how far we have come against insurmountable odds. What brings me joy is seeing our staff work in such a caring and compassionate manner to go above and beyond for those we serve. Take a moment to reflect on the past eight or nine months and look to what lies before us and find your joy—then share it with us.
